When I was a kid and heard the story of Balaam and Balak, the thing that always struck me was the part about the Angel blocking the road and how the Angel (when we couldn’t see it) was preventing Balam from doing things he wasn’t supposed to.
I always wondered, how often were there Angels in our paths that we didn’t even see, but Angels that kept us from doing things we shouldn’t.
Today, I was reading, as part of my devotions, Numbers 23 which is part of that story. In it, Balaam says to Balak:
God is not man, one given to lies, and not a son of man changing his mind. Does he speak and not do what he says? Does he promise and not come through? (vs. 19 – the Message)
There are many of us going through tough times right now. I know that. I am.
But let us all take a deep breath and really read what Balaam is saying to Balak. God is not one who changes his mind.
God doesn’t change His mind.
He doesn’t say one thing and do another (even though many of us do).
He makes promises and he keeps them.
Take heart and rest in the comfort of that.
I know I will.
