A friend of mine in Haiti wrote a blog post about doing it scared once.    I’d link to the post but it’s been a while and I’m not able to locate it.

So instead, I’m going to tell you something that Ann Voskamp wrote recently.    She wrote:

“Don’t let the sun set till you’ve done one thing that sort of scares you. The only trees that ever grow tall keep relentlessly stretching into unknown territory.”

Don’t let the sun set till you’ve done one thing……

That means that every day we need to do something that scares us.   Every day we need to push ourselves on something – push the edge of the comfort zone.    Ask the hard question, reach out to someone, do the nasty thing,  ask for forgiveness,  forgive someone else, do a random act of kindness,

It’s not easy, it’s quite often not fun – but that’s why it’s scary.

And that’s why those are the things that make a difference.

The only trees that ever grow tall keep relentlessly stretching into unknown territory.

Stretching into unknown territory – it’s often quite scary.

We’ve never been this way before.    We’ve never seen things this way before.

But we know that’s what we’re called to do.

And God has given us deep roots.   Roots that enable us to stretch.   Roots that enable us to go beyond our comfort zone.

Roots that enable us to grow even if it’s scary.

Imagine what could happen if everyone would push just a little bit further and do a little bit more to make the world a better place.

It would be/is scary but it’s also good.   It’s God filled good……..
