Yeah, I know, next Monday is the 4th of July.   That hapepens every year.

But I think this one is different.

I know this one is different.

Why?

It’s different because of a 3 year old little boy who drowned in the Agean Sea trying to be free.

It’s different because of a couple of hundred girls in Africa who were abducted by terrorists.

It’s different because of a bible study in the Carolina’s that was decimated by gunfire.

It’s different because of Orlando.

It’s different because of ISIS.

It’s different because of former Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.

It’s different because of an e-mail server.

It’s different because of a place called Benghazi.

It’s different because of #Brexit.

It’s different because of a proposed wall.

It’s different because of The Donald and what he says.

The United States of America was founded on principles.   Principles that have lasted for centuries.   Principles that have made the United States the “place to be” if you wanted or needed to leave the “place you were at.”

But those principles are under attack.   They are under attack in many ways and from many. fronts.

Fourth of July is different this year.   May we all take a few extra minutes to contemplate what we have, to remember what it cost and to make sure that those guiding lights are not forgotten, walked over or thrown away.

This year is different, may we celebrate the 4th of July with the belief that we can walk in the shadows of George, Ben, Thomas and the rest.
